Chuck is an industry veteran of over 33 years. He started his career with East Hills Athletic Club in 1990 and eventually owned and operated Lakeshore Athletic Club in Holland. He joined the MVP team in 1999 as RDV Sportsplex Ice Den Director. With the expansion of the business to West Michigan, Chuck was named Director of Human Resources in 2005, Vice President of Human Resources and Leadership in 2013, and appointed Chief Operating Officer in August 2021. He took over as President in September of 2023. Chuck brings to his role experience in process and people management, operational expertise, and collaborative leadership. Chuck has been married to his wife, Beverly, for 31 years and has two grown sons who both live in Grand Rapids.
Scott was named Vice President of Operations in 2018. Since joining the company in 2005, Scott has worked in various roles in member services, operations, and sales at clubs in Grand Rapids. In 2010, Scott became Senior Manager of Operations, followed by being appointed to Director of Operations in 2014, and Vice President of Operations in 2018. Scott brings to his role experience in process improvement, quality assurance, connection, and building strong team cultures. Scott has been married to his wife, Leah, for 15 years and resides in Hudsonville with their two daughters.
John Backing joined MVP Sports Clubs in August 2022 as Vice President of Finance and Business Operations, in which he oversees MVP’s Finance, Property, and IT teams. Prior to joining the team, he served as the Finance Manager for PSG Dover. John brings to his role experience in process improvement, maximizing revenue, and minimizing risk. John has been married to his wife, Erin, for 13 years and resides in Comstock Park with their three children.
Emily started her career with MVP leading the Talent Acquisition teams in both Florida and Michigan, coming to the role with prior recruitment experience in both markets. She was promoted to Vice President of Human Resources in 2020 and continues to oversee all Human Resources initiatives across the MVP brand. Emily brings to her role experience in strategic organizational planning, employee relations, change management, and connecting people and teams. Emily has been married to her husband, Cole, for 7 years and resides in Grand Rapids with their son and daughter.
Since joining the company in 2023, Seamus has implemented several strategic improvements to both the sales and fitness departments. He brings nearly 20 years of experience in the fitness industry to his role and has previously held several leadership positions for global health club brands. Within his role, Seamus leads two departments, overseeing the impact of over 60 employees across all clubs. He brings to his role experience in revenue strategy, brand development and recognition, and product implementation and scaling. Seamus has been married to his wife, Erikah, for 10 years and resides in East Grand Rapids with their two children.
Derek returned to MVP in August 2021 after previously working for the company in various operational and leadership positions from 2006-2011. He moved into the Director of Member Engagement role in January of 2023. Derek brings to his role experience in team collaboration, and improving member experience, satisfaction, and retention. Derek has been married to his wife, Keri, for 18 years and resides in Alger Heights with their three children.
Kristen Tobert joined the MVP Sports Clubs team in June 2022. Prior to beginning in this role, she was leading communications and marketing teams in higher education for several years. Kristen brings to her role experience in strategic marketing and communications, targeted digital marketing campaigns, and graphic design. Kristen has been married to her husband, Conrad, for 10 years and resides in Forest Hills with their two sons.
