Post-Workout Snack: Trail Mix Energy Bites

Looking for something other than a smoothie to refuel with after a workout? These trail mix energy bites are perfectly portioned to give you the muscle recovery nutrients you need to maximize your time in the gym. They can be made ahead of time and stored in your gym bag for a quick snack on the go!

There’s a reason why family-sized bags of trail mix are sold everywhere – it’s a crowd pleaser. But, it’s not always the healthiest. The ratio of candy and dried fruit to nuts is often unbalanced which leaves you with a sweeter snack than a balanced one.

If you’re looking to maximize your time spent in the gym, it’s recommended to eat a balanced snack or meal at least 30 minutes after your workout. The right nutrients will jumpstart the recovery process and combat low blood sugar levels which can cause fatigue.

These trail mix energy bites are easy to make and convenient to take on-the-go.

  • ½ cup ground flaxseed

  • ¾ cup almond butter (or other nut butter)
  • 1/3 cup honey

Add the almond butter and honey to a large mixing bowl and stir to combine. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix until evenly coated.
