Smoothie Summer Challenge Part 2: 5 Smoothie Recipes You Need This Summer

Did you catch the latest on how to build an energizing smoothie? Today, we’re going to be diving deeper into our smoothie talk as I share with you what to build your smoothie with. Whether you’re going for a tropical flavor, berry sensation or you’re more of a chocolate fan, there’s a recipe for everyone!

To recap, we’re going to be following the healthy smoothie formula, which is: 1/2 cup frozen fruit + protein + healthy fats + handful of leafy greens + 1 cup liquid

Smoothies are a fantastic way to increase energy, satiety and boost health from the inside out for that inviable summer glow and trim waistline!

The flavor combinations are endless, but I’ve rounded up my top five favorite smoothie recipes for you to try at home.

Almond Berry Smoothie

  • 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries
  •  1/4 cup almonds
  • 1 Tablespoon coconut oil
  • pinch of cinnamon
  • handful of spinach
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk

Mint Chip Avocado Smoothie

  •  1 frozen banana
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  •  1/4 avocado
  • 2 Tablespoons cacao nibs (for the chocolate crunch!)
  • 1/4 cup mint leaves
  • handful of spinach
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk

Cherry Limeade Smoothie

  • 1/2 cup cherries
  • 1/2 lime, zested and juiced
  • 2 Tablespoons chia seeds
  • handful of kale
  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut water

Chocolate Almond Butter Cup Smoothie

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1 Tablespoon almond butter
  • 1 handful spinach
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk

*for more chocolate flavor, add 1 Tablespoon cocoa powder

Banana Pineapple Green Smoothie

  • 1/2 fresh banana
  •  1/3 cup frozen pineapple
  • 3 Tablespoon hemp seeds
  • 1/4 avocado
  • handful of kale
  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut water

Here are some pro tips for homemade smoothie success:

Got leftover fruit? Freeze it! For bananas, peel them, first, then place in a large Ziploc bag to freeze. For all other fruit, peel if needed, chop into similar size chunks then freeze in a single layer on a baking sheet before adding them to a Ziploc to store for later.

Order matters. I find that adding your liquid, first, then your protein powder leafy greens, healthy fat and frozen fruit last results in a super smooth and creamy smoothie.
